Mayer & Cie.: Asset transfer completed and operations restarting
With the formal closing of the asset purchase agreement, Mayer & Cie. Global is resuming operations in Albstadt. The new owner focuses on technical continuity, a streamlined organisation and a clear commitment to the established brand.
Mayer & Cie. resumes operations under new ownership
The circular knitting activities of Mayer & Cie. have officially been transferred to Xu Hongjie, enabling the company to restart operations at its historic headquarters in Albstadt. Following the closing process, the new entity - Mayer & Cie. Global - begins with a team of around 45 newly hired employees covering construction, product management and sales. Development, production and administration will remain on site, mirroring the previous organisational setup.
The product portfolio continues to include single- and double-jersey machines for applications in apparel, underwear and home textiles. This reflects the established technical focus that has shaped the companys offering in the circular knitting sector.
Clear positioning from the new owner
The new owner highlights the long-term significance of the brand and its technical strengths. We are convinced of the incomparable value of the brand, the quality of the machines and deeply impressed by the technical competence of the new team, says Xu Hongjie. His statement points to continuity in operations and technology, while acknowledging the expertise available within Huixing, the Chinese manufacturer of knitting machinery and related intelligent software owned by his family.
Closing supported by all required approvals
The completion of the transaction required several regulatory approvals. These included clearances from Chinese authorities for outbound investments and a certificate of non-objection from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. With all approvals granted, the asset transfer could be finalised, allowing the company to fully resume business activities.
Background: From insolvency to restart
Mayer & Cie. filed for insolvency in self-administration in September 2025. The procedure was opened on 1 December 2025, initiating a structured shutdown of operations. Most employees received notice until the end of February 2026, and circular knitting production continued until the end of that month. The braiding machine division had already been sold to an Italian investor in December.
An extensive national and international investor search initially remained unsuccessful, and a complete shutdown was already planned. Negotiations with Huixing Machine Co., Ltd. subsequently led to a solution. The asset purchase agreements were signed on 10 February 2026. With the closing now completed, the company begins a new phase as Mayer & Cie. Global.
