Pyratex launches new “0km” supply chain
Pyratex, a Spanish textile pioneer, announces a new “0km” supply chain using cotton cultivated in Spain.
Cotton has one of the most complex supply chains in fashion, with production spanning multiple countries. 99% of cotton is grown outside of Europe, with the majority coming from Asia due to its climate. Although Spain and Greece also produce cotton, they represent less than 1% of global production and their cotton is often exported to Asia for processing.
Full traceability and quality control
Inspired by the “0km” food movement, Pyratex has built its new supply chain around Spanish cotton to minimise logistics and environmental impact. The cotton is cultivated on 400 hectares in Seville and Córdoba, where it is harvested and ginned, before being spun and knitted in Portugal. By partnering with local cotton ginners, the company reduces transportation emissions and ensures full traceability and quality control. The cotton is also subject to strict EU regulations, guaranteeing it is GMO-free, compliant with labour laws, and cultivated using water-efficient farming practices. The new fabric collection, Pyratex solea, is named after a traditional Andalusian flamenco style as a tribute to the region where the cotton is grown.
Pyratex is an R&D company and supplier of eco-innovative textiles operating in Europe and America. Aiming to replace polluting materials with responsible alternative, they specialise in fabrics and knitwear made with natural, bio-based, and recycled materials, with a certified and traceable supply chain. With the launch of Pyratex solea, the company advances its mission of creating local, transparent, and sustainable fashion – straight from Spain.
