Pantone: 210 New Colours for Fashion, Home Furnishings and Interior Design
New Colour Palette Reflects Global Trends and Insights to Meet Evolving Industry Needs
Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company and the global authority on colour and provider of professional colour standards for the design industries, today announced the addition of 210 new colours to the Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiors Colour System.
Pantone leveraged international trend-spotting intelligence along with consumer and client colour research from the Pantone Color Institute to develop an enhanced shade selection. The addition of the new shades brings the total selection to 2,310 colours, offering the most relevant colour palette, specification tools and global colour solutions throughout the product development process, from inspiration to realization.
“The colours that are influencing design today have evolved to reflect shifting societal views, new technological innovations and a truly global outlook,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “With the ability to interpret the influence of colour on overall consumer psychology, we have enhanced the utility of our Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiors Colour System to enable the design community to stay on the cutting edge of colour selection.”
“With the advent of fast fashion, and continued pressure on shortening product manufacturing cycles, Pantone’s off-the-shelf colour system with immediate, global availability is more relevant and economical than ever before,” stated Mitchell Cole, Global Director of Marketing, Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiors.
The 210 new colour additions focus on areas of significant market needs, addressing evolving consumer tastes.
With the growing complexity and versatility of the orange family, the range was expanded to include hot and radiant tones, as well as spicy, deeper and more golden oranges. New, intensified blacks, such as Pantone 19-4003 Onyx and Pantone 10-3911 Black Beauty, reflect the prevalence of these shades across the fashion, home and interiors industry as a colour of luxury. Blues have become more nuanced, so the palette incorporates varying degrees of watery, vibrant aquamarine blues, along with chambray blues, new takes on classic navies and ethereal shades that evoke feelings of calmness. The increasing appeal of pink has led to the addition of a variety of pinks spanning from softer rosier shades, such as Pantone 18-1951 Love Potion, to those that are more vibrant, such as Pantone 18-2045 Pink Peacock.
The new range of reds is both sultry and elegant at once. The yellow palette has been enhanced to include more true yellows and orange yellows, along with pungent yellows to express an exotic vibe. New brown shades reflect earth-driven and organic movements, as well as rich and delectable shades influenced by trends in luxury. The continued influence of the green family led to the addition of a wide array of shades that range from natural to synthetic. As purple hues continue to rise in popularity, the new range includes vibrant red-based purples, an array of softer mid tones, and mystical shades representing the multi-dimensional aspects of the colour. Both neutrals and whites were expanded in warm and cool tones.
The beautiful new colours were developed by Pantone and Huntsman Textile Effects, two leaders in colour development and realization. Huntsman’s Avitera SE range of dyes is a breakthrough innovation that enables dramatic sustainability gains while greatly enhancing colour accuracy in dyeing cotton and cellulosic blends. The new colours for the Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiorspalette are currently available in cotton formats. Individual cotton color standard Swatch Cards (4” x 4”) will accurately specify colours and build palettes for textiles and apparel using the Pantone Fashion Home + Interior System. New colours are also available as supplement pages to all Pantone Fashion Home + Interior System publications, such at the Cotton Passport, Cotton Planner, Cotton Chip Set and Cotton Swatch Library. Color Manager Software will enable digital design using all of the 2,310 colours now included in thePantone Fashion Home + Interior System colour palette. The use of globally available dyes and on-site technical support ensures accurate reproduction throughout the manufacturing process. Pantone Fashion Home + Interior System paper formats will be available in January 2016.
