Embroidery backings without microplastics

The “Green Line” embroidery stabilizers from Gunold are made from biodegradable or recycled materials and offer the right stabilizer for every embroidery application. Conventional nonwovens often contain polyester fibres that dissolve during washing and are released into the environment as microplastics.

Embroidery stabilizers are an indispensable aid in embroidery, giving the base fabric the necessary stability for the embroidery process. With the new “Green Line” product line, Gunold offers a genuine, environmentally friendly alternative. In fact, one of the sustainable qualities is also a polyester nonwoven but it is a regenerated material made from 100% recycled polyester, which is therefore also considered sustainable.

Sustainable embroidery backings that set new standards

The perfect backing for each fabric! This is the top priority at Gunold, because for perfect embroidery you always need a stabilizing backing that gets the best out of the fabric and embroidery program. The new “Green Line” collection offers 9 environmentally friendly embroidery backing variants, two of which are available in the colors white and black.

Tear-Away Nonwoven – flexible and easy to remove

For fine fabrics such as shirts, blouses and underwear, the new collection offers a particularly soft nonwoven that is pleasant on the skin thanks to its innovative material mix. It contains a water-soluble component that ensures low-residue processing after washing. Anyone looking for a more stable nonwoven for jackets, blousons or caps will find an environmentally friendly alternative in the sustainable versions made from viscose and cellulose. These nonwovens are available in white and black, making them ideal for both light and dark fabrics.

Cut-Away Nonwovens – maximum stability for long-lasting embroideries

Cut-away nonwovens are used for fabrics that need to be permanently stabilized. They remain on the reverse side of the textile for its entire lifespan and ensure long-term dimensional stability – even after frequent wearing, washing and ironing. One option in the “Green Line” collection is made from polylactic acid (PLA) and is particularly suitable for natural textiles as it is biodegradable. PLA also offers high strength, low moisture absorption and it is flame retardant. Another, particularly robust cut-away nonwoven option is made from recycled polyester and thus contributes to the recycling of valuable raw materials.

Special nonwovens – customized solutions for special applications

“Green Line” special nonwovens are available for medium-weight fabrics such as jackets, leather, vinyl or jeans. These nonwovens provide the necessary stability without impairing the look or feel of the fabric. A particularly soft tear-away nonwoven, on the other hand, is ideal for textiles that are worn directly on the skin – from shirts and blouses to T-shirts and sweatshirts. All nonwovens in the new collection are certified in their respective categories – compostability, environmental compatibility and recycling. Apart from 3 qualities, these nonwovens are produced in the EU to minimize transport routes and to further reduce the environmental impact. With its sustainable product line, Gunold is once again setting standards in the field of embroidery – for environmentally friendly, long-lasting and high-quality results.
