Microban and Ortovox partner up
For the Sequence Trail Line, Ortovox combines 100% textile-to-textile (T2T) recycled polyester with built-in odour control from Microban. Both partners link the approach to less frequent washing and a longer service life in the use phase.
Microban International has entered into a partnership with mountain sports specialist Ortovox . The brand’s first-ever mountain biking collection, the Sequence Series, integrates Microban’s odour-capture technology. Ortovox uses Scentry Revive and integrates it directly into the fabric during manufacturing. Microban describes the mechanism as actively capturing and neutralising odour molecules before they settle into synthetic fibres. The stated durability is up to 50 home launderings.
From a textile perspective, the collaboration targets a trade-off Ortovox outlines in a case study. Historically, the company relied heavily on wool in its base and mid layers, drawing on the fibre’s natural odour resistance on long tours. For the mountain biking collection, however, Ortovox set out to develop a lightweight, fully synthetic jersey built around a closed-loop material philosophy: T2T recycling, turning post-consumer textiles back into high-performance technical apparel. Ortovox points to the functional strengths of synthetics – moisture transport, breathability and quick drying – while emphasising what is missing compared with wool: inherent resistance to bacterial odour. In high-output riding and multi-day use where washing is not an option, odour build-up can quickly become a comfort and care issue.
Ortovox therefore opted for a solution integrated into the material rather than topical finishes that can wash off over time. In the case study, the effect is likewise described at material level: odour molecules are captured and neutralised before they can bond with the fibre. The intention is to support the performance concept of a fully synthetic, circular material choice.
Microban states that Scentry Revive carries, among other credentials, Eco Passport by OEKO-TEX and bluesign certifications. The company also highlights that the technology does not require biocidal registration, positioning it for sustainable fashion development projects.
