In recent years, the demand for medical textiles in India has been on the rise. Factors such as the increase in the geriatric population, accidents, and lifestyle diseases have contributed to this growth. Additionally, government initiatives, growing awareness about hygiene, medical tourism, and advancements in textile technology are further driving the expansion of the medical textile industry in India. According to a report by the Ministry of Textiles, the market potential for medical textiles in India is estimated to be valued at approximately 1.125 b USD by 2021–22, with a projected annual growth rate of 5%.
Sitra, a renowned Textile Research Association, has been supported by the industry and the Ministry of Textiles (MoT) for over 65 years, making significant contributions to the textile industry. The MoT established the Centre of Excellence for Medical Textiles in 2008, which has been organizing Meditex, an International Medical Textile Expo cum Conference, in 2014 and 2018. This exclusive trade fair for medical textiles provides a global platform for business opportunities in various applications of medical textiles and has seen substantial industry participation. In 2023, the expo will be hosted as part of Messe Frankfurt India's Techtextil India 2023.
Concurrently with the exhibition, targeted topic seminars supported by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, will be held. These seminars will focus on current and emerging technologies in medical textiles. Speakers will discuss advancements and trends in the field. Conference attendees and exhibition visitors will have the opportunity to witness and benefit from world-class, state-of-the-art medical textile products, machinery, and technologies.
