Expanding demand for low-impact fibres

The spring edition in Shanghai brought together over 600 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, presenting organic, regenerated and recycled yarns across 27,000 sqm. With more than 25,000 visitors from 113 countries, the fair featured a wide mix of certified and next-generation fibres for apparel, home textiles and functional applications.

Across the seven product zones and the International Zone, exhibitors presented recycled polyester, organic cotton and high-function fibres for sportswear. Toray Industries Inc introduced its Premium GOUSEN select fibres, including Gigadull and Nanodesign for UV protection and invisible sweat-stain performance. “We’ve made many contacts with positive responses and feel optimistic about China’s yarn and fibre potential. We’ll definitely return next year,” said Mr Hiroki Shimada, Filament Department Manager.

Circularity and new recycling routes

Recycling developments were also part of the mix. Circ Inc showcased its textile-to-textile process converting polycotton waste into polyester chips and lyocell or viscose pulp. “It’s a very good platform to enter the Chinese market. We’re pleased with China’s strong sustainability focus, with high T-to-T awareness and rapid recycling plant scale-ups,” explained Ms Kathleen Rademan, Vice President of Commercial Strategy.

Indian suppliers showcased water-saving Kasturi Cotton, and Norgiis Group presented air-jet and ring-spun cottons from Uzbekistan, Türkiye and Turkmenistan.

Market insight and trend orientation

The fringe programme included presentations such as the Tongkun China Fibres Fashion Trends 2026/2027 Show and demonstrations on enzymatic renewal technologies. According to Ms Wilmet Shea, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd: “This year’s Yarn Expo Spring grew in scale and relevance… empowering buyers to turn ideas into business opportunities.”

International sourcing dynamics

Visitor feedback highlighted different sourcing priorities. Thailand’s Unihorse discovered materials not available in its domestic market, while Australia’s Bodypeace Bamboo Clothing noted the “amazing range of sustainable materials.” Buyers such as Nitori and Maoxin Industry pointed to anti-pilling, UV-resistant and antibacterial fibres as useful options for future collections.

The fair was held alongside several textile events in Shanghai, creating a setting where exhibitors and visitors could engage with multiple sectors during the same period.
