Edana summit maps industry innovation
Budapest conference highlights how nonwovens manufacturers are transforming sustainability challenges into competitive advantages through AI-driven innovation and circular economy solutions.
Industry leaders converge on strategic priorities
The European Disposables and Nonwovens Association concluded its flagship Outlook 2025 conference in Budapest, marking the three-day event as a major success. The conference served as a critical platform for dialogue, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and policy experts to address the biggest questions facing the absorbent hygiene and wipes sectors. Ambassador Ivo H. Daalder's opening keynote offered insights into how global alliances and economic policies are reshaping trade and market opportunities for textile manufacturers. Experts shared insights on absorbent hygiene product markets, particularly in developing countries, where local players are thriving by embracing agility and sustainability.
Circular economy takes center stage
Throughout the conference, sustainability was a central theme rather than merely a buzzword. Sessions provided practical guidance on navigating the EU Green Deal and securing funding for innovative projects. A session on “Green Claims in Practice” proved particularly vital, with representatives from the European Environmental Bureau, TIC Council, and European Advertising Standards Alliance offering clear advice on building consumer trust and avoiding greenwashing. Innovation was on full display, with Hiro Technologies' groundbreaking MycoDigestible diaper capturing attention. The product uses plastic-eating fungi to safely break down diapers, offering a glimpse into how biotechnology could create truly circular solutions for the textile industry.
AI accelerates innovation pipeline
The discussions reached beyond current challenges to explore future opportunities. A keynote by Roover Consulting addressed artificial intelligence's role in the industry, showcasing real-world examples of how AI can boost creativity and accelerate product development while addressing the need for responsible implementation. The wipes sector received focused attention, with speakers from Water UK, Euromonitor International, and Suominen Corporation underscoring that collaboration, innovation, and credible claims are key to a sustainable future for the category.
Industry resilience drives future growth
“Outlook 2025 was a powerful testament to our industry's resilience and forward-thinking nature,” said Murat Dogru, General Manager of Edana. “The conversations were about leading the change. We saw an industry committed to turning regulation into competitive advantage and using innovation to create a truly sustainable future.”
The value of face-to-face connection was a recurring theme. Beyond formal sessions, Outlook featured networking events, including a cocktail reception at Buda Castle. Participants valued the informal discussions that occur during conferences, recognising these connections as crucial for fostering international collaboration necessary to address global sustainability challenges.
